Churches Uniting in Christ to hold Plenary

Churches Uniting in Christ is holding a plenary on January 28-30 in St. Louis, Missouri. Delegations from all eleven members and partners will be present.

 

The plenary will open with Worship and Holy Communion at 6:30 PM (Central Time) on Thursday, January 28, at St. Peter African Methodist Episcopal Church at 4730 Margaretta St. in St. Louis.

 

On Friday, January 29, the plenary will convene at 8:30 AM at St. Peter AME for Prayers and a Bible Study, then have the President's Address at 10 AM.

 

Workshops will begin at 11 AM and continue until 3 PM, with a break for lunch. Workshops will be offered on: Youth/Young Adult Alliances, Changes in Ordained Ministry with CUIC Churches, Ministry Reconciliation Tools for Local CUIC Congregations to Come Together, Racial and Social Justice Formation in Action, Identifying and Addressing White Supremacy Groups who Claim Christian Identity, and Addressing Christian Underpinning of the Doctrine of Discovery.

 

There will be a discussion of reports and recommendations from 3:30 PM to 5 PM, followed by dinner. Evening prayers will begin at 6 PM.

 

Saturday morning will be held at the Marriott St. Louis Grand Hotel at 800 Washington Ave. The morning will be devoted to business discussion and voting on recommendation and new Executive Committee officers. At 11:30, there will be a closing worship with Installation of the New Officers and Holy Communion.

 

The plenary is open to all who would like to attend, though voting matters are restricted to the official delegations from each communion.

Churches Uniting in Christ is a covenant relationship among eleven Christian communions that have pledged to live more closely together in expressing their unity in Christ and combating racism together. The member churches of CUIC include the African Methodist Episcopal Church, the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, the Episcopal Church, the International Council of Community Churches, the Moravian Church (Northern Province), the Presbyterian Church (USA), the United Church of Christ and the United Methodist Church. The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is a partner in mission and dialogue.
